Editorial: Streetcars are big gamble

Elections are around the corner and we're going to hear a lot about streetcars.

San Antonians already made their voices heard at the polls 10 years ago when a tax hike passed with the promise that none of the funds would go to light rail.

Still, VIA and city and county leaders keep pushing for streetcars instead.

They're finding creative ways to get hundreds of millions to pay for it, but others are now looking for creative ways to block some of those funds.

No matter how you look at it, streetcars are a big gamble with a questionable return on some pretty shaky ground.

We might not be able to vote on it once and for all, but the public clearly has concerns about streetcars, and VIA shouldn't ignore them while pushing full steam ahead.
