A father was arrested after police said he hurt his 3-year-old son while running through a wooded area to escape police.

Josue Valasquez, 29, was charged with injury to a child, criminal negligence after San Antonio police investigators said he took off running through a wooded area with his 2-year-old son while trying to escape police.

Officers were initially called to Apple Hills, near Loop 410 and Bandera, for a reported kidnapping.

The little boy's mother brought her son to see his father, then Valasquez and his ex-wife got into an argument, police said.

At some point, officers said, Valasquez started beating up the child's mother. When she called for help, Valasquez took off with his son, police said.

The child suffered cuts and scrapes from the brushy area where Valasquez hid. The little boy also suffered bruises and a fractured skull from his father falling on top of him while intoxicated, police said.

Police called out their Blue Eagle helicopter to search the wooded area, and they were able to find the little boy and father within 20 minutes.

Valasquez was arrested.

The little boy was released from an area hospital Thursday afternoon.
