3 charged in Walmart theft; dog shot during arrests

BCSO: Deputies forced to shoot pit bull in self-defense

Three men were arrested and a pit bull dog was shot and killed after a reported theft at a Walmart in Eastern Bexar County early Tuesday morning, Bexar County sheriff's deputies said.

Deputies responded to a call for a theft from the Walmart on Foster Road and were able to get the license plate of a vehicle seen leaving the store with the alleged thieves inside.

Deputies tracked the vehicle to a nearby home in the 4000 block of Coral Sunrise and said one of the alleged thieves walked outside and ran back inside when he saw deputies.

Deputies said they could hear screaming coming from inside the home as they began to approach the front door, and that someone inside was telling the suspects to get out.

BCSO officials said the deputies were confronted by a pit bull and forced to shoot the dog in self-defense to get to the alleged thieves. Deputies took all three into custody, but said the pit bull died.

Officials said the men had stolen a large TV and a computer. They were positively identified by a witness who deputies brought to the scene.

Their names have not been released, but deputies said they are expected to face theft charges.
