Blackstone jury remains deadlocked

Deliberation to continue on Wednesday

After a full day of deliberation, the jury in the manslaughter trial of Benjamin Blackstone was sent home for the night late Tuesday.

The panel had been deliberating since just after 11 a.m. Monday. They were sent home late Monday and resumed deliberating Tuesday morning.

Blackstone is facing manslaughter charges in the death of his friend Jeffery Keller. The two were examining a shotgun that Keller wanted to purchase from Blackstone, according to testimony last week. They argued, witnesses testified, over the way Keller was handling the shotgun.

Blackstone, who was holding an AR-15 assault rifle, said he felt threatened by Keller and fired the rifle in self-defense.

If he is found guilty, Blackstone is facing a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison But he is eligible for probation.

Jury deliberations will resume at 9 a.m. Wednesday morning.
