Editorial Reply: Removing Alamo Plaza attractions makes no sense

My name is Davis Phillips and I am the president and CEO of Phillips Entertainment.
We are a locally owned and operated small family business with a number of visitor attractions on Alamo Plaza.
The discussion about whether or not to develop around the Alamo has actually already occurred.
The decision to allow development happened over 160 years ago. As a result, today, the Alamo is in the center of the seventh largest city in the country.
Our city has an incredible mix of history, culture, entertainment, shopping, and dining. There is something for everyone. This is why San Antonio is the No. 1 destination for leisure visitors in the state of Texas. We are an affordable, fun, family destination.
Some people want the visitor attractions removed from Alamo Plaza, but it does not make sense to subtract family entertainment from a family destination.
History and entertainment are not mutually exclusive. Millions of people that enjoy the Alamo also enjoy the entertainment options on Alamo Plaza. These people should count in this debate at least as much as the vocal minority who disapprove.
There are many ways that Alamo Plaza and the interpretive experience can be improved while still respecting the rights of private property and businesses.
It is my belief that this balance can and should be achieved and it is my hope that the upcoming Alamo Plaza committee will do so.
