Suspect arrested in injury of Bexar County deputy at Walmart

Clarence Blueitt, 55, arrested on robbery charge

A suspect identified as 55-year-old Clarence Blueitt has been arrested in connection with a fight inside a northeast Bexar County Walmart store that left a sheriff's deputy injured.

An arrest warrant affidavit stated that investigators with the Bexar County Sheriff's Office used a license plate number, seen on surveillance video from the store, to identify Blueitt, who also had a prior arrest for assaulting a public servant.

The affidavit stated that on Saturday, a loss prevention officer at Walmart in the 4000 block of Foster Road noticed a man who was removing security tags from items, then attempting to walk out of the store without paying.

When the employee tried to stop the man, now identified as Blueitt, a struggle broke out, the affidavit stated.

A sheriff's deputy who was off duty--but in uniform and working security-- attempted to intervene and was punched in the face and chest, the affidavit stated.

The deputy then deployed his Taser, but the suspect removed the prongs and got away, the affidavit stated. Investigators said the license plate number they saw on surveillance video is on a car registered to Blueitt, the affidavit stated.

He was arrested Sunday on a robbery charge. The deputy, whose name hasn't been released, is recovering from his injuries.
