Local VITA site helps with last minute tax preparation

St. Philip's College prepares taxes for 22nd year in a row, 14th most productive site in nation

A local Volunteer Income Tax Assistance site been preparing taxes for 22 years and was well-prepared for Tuesday's tax filing deadline.

St. Philip's College was recently ranked the 14th most productive VITA site in the nation.

So when it came to getting taxes filed on time for hundreds of San Antonians, the group was well prepared.

On Monday, there were about 150 people who advantage of the free tax preparation service. They expect just as many on Tuesday.

"Come on down and get to finishing up your taxes because it's about to be the last day," said Kenneth Bankston, the coordinator of the VITA site at St. Philip's. "At 10 o'clock tonight we are shutting down over here so we can make sure everything is sent through."

The San Antonio Postmaster told KSAT earlier there will be no extended hours for tax day.

All offices will maintain normal business hours. The Airport Post Office will maintain its regular closing time of 10 p.m. and all mail deposited at that location by closing will have an April 15 postmark.
