A Universal City girl who was run over by her school bus and killed has been identified as Jada Craft, 6.
The girl was a kindergarten student at Coronado Village Elementary, according to Steve Linscomb, spokesman for the Judson Independent School District.
"It is something that is just going to be difficult for the students and some of the staff to get through," he said.
Linscomb said a team of counselors would be on hand at the school to talk to those who are affected by what he called a horrible tragedy.
It happened at the Avana Grove apartments, located near Loop 1604 and Kitty Hawk Road, where Jada lived with her mother and at least one adult male relative, according to Universal City police.
Lt. Fernando Parra said officers who responded to a 911 call found the girl inside her family's apartment.
He said she was with that adult relative when she was run over by her school bus, and he then tried to get medical attention.
"He tried to stop a couple of cars to get help and nobody would stop. So he made the decision to get her out of there and get her medical help," Parra said.
Paramedics were not able to save the girl.
Parra said the incident is still under investigation, but it appears to be an accident.
He said the school bus driver, who was devastated by what happened, is not facing any criminal charges at this time.
Parra refused to elaborate on how the crash happened.
However, he did say it involved the bus that Jada usually rides to school, and that she was outside the bus as it began to drive away from her apartment complex.
