Edgewood ISD stays mum on alleged improper student relationships

District officials offer no public comment during board meeting

Officials with the Edgewood Independent School District remained silent following allegations of improper student relationships at Memorial High School.

The district held a board meeting Tuesday night and several residents were in attendance, but board members would not address the allegations during public comment.

A former science teacher at Memorial High School, 44-year-old Marcus Revilla, has been charged with sexual assault and possession of child pornography.

Revilla also faces a federal charge of production of child pornography. Revilla was accused of having a relationship with a student last September when the girl was 15 years old.

A former district police officer is also accused of having a relationship with the same student. The girl is now 16 years old and pregnant, and no longer attends Memorial High School.

"The actions of these two individuals don't reflect the overall values of Edgewood ISD employees, and when those proper relationships between staff and students are broken, the district will cooperate will all law enforcement agencies," said Roland Martinez, Edgewood ISD Spokesman.

The district says teachers and staff undergo background checks before being hired.
