Former mayor's family granted permission to exhume body
Death of Bill Bohlke ruled accidental; family suspects foul play
During a brief hearing in 166th District Court Judge Laura Salinas granted permission for the family of former Hollywood Park Mayor Bill Bohlke to have his body exhumed.
Bohlke was found dead at the family's Atascosa County ranch last year. His death was ruled accidental. According to Atascosa County investigators, Bohlke was attacked by a mule.
Following Monday's hearing the Atascosa County attorney said the county was not opposed to the exhumation but did not feel the county should pay for it.
The judge granted the exhumation order with that provision.
"We stand by what the investigation shows until someone else shows us something different," said Atascosa County attorney Charles Frigerio.
Citing the family's plan to go forward their lawyer said they simply want justice.
"The evidence shows that he was beaten -- that he was brutally murdered," said Edgardo Baez. "So finally let's get the answers that the family deserves."
Baez told the judge that they already have the approval of the federal government for the exhumation -- approval that was necessary since Bohlke is buried in the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
