Rain stays away as thousands enjoy 2014 Texas Cavaliers River Parade

Medal of Honor recipient serves as grand marshal

Rain bypassed the Texas Cavaliers River Parade to the relief of thousands who came to see the festivities that took months of planning.

Leading the parade as Grand Marshal was Sgt. 1st Class Leroy Petry, a congressional medal of honor recipient, who was wounded in Afghanistan.

Watching as honored guests were several wounded warriors being treated at the San Antonio Military Medical Center.

"I feel honored, actually humbled and grateful," said Sgt. Kenny Morales, who also had been wounded in Afghanistan.

Spc. Darrell Fales, who was injured stateside after three deployments, agreed as he watched the festive barges float by, many with military bands entertaining the crowds.

"It's an honor and privilege to be a part of it. The community and the citizens of San Antonio are awesome," he said.

The Texas Cavaliers River Parade was the first of three Fiesta parades this week.

The Battle of Flowers kicks off mid-day Friday and the Fiesta Flambeau begins Saturday evening. You can watch all the parades lives on KSAT-12.
