Spurs pep rally held at new West Side HEB

Fans gather to support team's playoff run

It didn't take long for San Antonians to partake in a Spurs-themed pep rally hosted by HEB.

HEB spokesperson Kimberly Harle was happy to see such a large turnout.

"We don't want anyone to miss the game, so we're trying to get everyone motivated. Last night was a tough game, but we're going to come back and it will be even more exciting next time," said Harle.

The rally celebrated the San Antonio Spurs 2014 playoff run at their new Valley Hi store on the west side. Fans like Lillie Barrera were more than thrilled to celebrate the team, despite their loss last night.

"It wasn't good, but we can't win them all, all the time. So it's OK, they'll come back," said Barrera.

Fans got up close and personal with the Spurs team mascot, the Coyote, and the HEB mascot, H-E Buddy.

They also got to try Matt Bonner's new sandwich, the Red Mamba Samba.

The sandwich was just one of the freebies given away. Fans also got bobble heads and T-shirts.

Some fans walked away with Spurs tickets. The new HEB opens to the public Friday at 10 a.m.
