San Antonio police: Hit-and-run suspect left behind ID at crash scene

Orlen Mejia, 24, accused of injuring 2 bikers

A 24-year-old man identified as Orlen Mejia has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run crash that injured two motorcyclists.

San Antonio police said they identified Mejia thanks to identification cards he left behind at the scene of the crash. He faces two counts of failure to stop and render aid.

An arrest warrant affidavit stated that Mejia's ex-girlfriend also told police he was driving the 2000 Saturn when it hit two bikers on NE Loop 410 near San Pedro Avenue on April 10.

The affidavit stated that the woman told officers Mejia, who also uses the name Daniel Gonzales, had swerved to avoid a slow-moving car when he hit the two motorcycles.

Both bikers had to be taken to a hospital for treatment. The affidavit stated that the car driver fled from the scene of the crash on foot.

Police later found several ID cards from Honduras, some with Mejia's real name and others with his alias, inside the vehicle, the affidavit stated.

Mejia was taken into custody on Wednesday.
