SAPD: Man stole iPhone, iPad on VIA bus, beat passenger

Keith Corley, 19, charged with robbery

A suspect has been identified as the man who snatched an iPhone from a VIA bus passenger and then made his escape -- at one point, climbing into a stranger's pickup, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

San Antonio police arrested Keith Corley, 19, Thursday on a charge of robbery.

Police aired pictures of the suspect, taken by a witness' cellphone, on local TV stations and asked anyone who recognized him to call authorities.

Police said they later received a tip from someone who identified Corley as the man in the pictures, the affidavit stated.

According to officers at the scene of the April 23 crime, a man approached a passenger on a VIA bus last Wednesday who was listening to music on his iPhone.

The passenger told police the man then grabbed his phone and got off the bus. The phone owner followed him, attempting to get his phone back.

However, police said the man punched him in the face, knocking him down, then grabbed his phone and iPad and ran away.

At one point, he tried to climb into the back of a stranger's pickup, police said.

The affidavit stated that the victim suffered bruising and bleeding in his eyes, as well as a swollen jaw.

A witness who was nearby used a cellphone to capture video of the robber as he ran away, police said.

After police aired the images in a Crime Stoppers report, they said they received a tip, identifying Corley as the man in the pictures, the affidavit stated.

The victim also identified Corley in a photo lineup as the man who robbed him, the affidavit stated.
