SAPD offers free service to help protect your home

Free security survey by appointment to protect home from theft

Securing your home or business is at the top of the San Antonio Police Department's list.

SAPD SAFFE officers work closely with residents in their  assigned areas. Their main focus is to help prevent crimes before they happen.

At no charge, and by appointment they will conduct a home security survey to make sure you've taken every precaution possible to secure your home from burglars.

"Not everybody knows about the screws or about the bars for the backdoor or about maybe trimming the bushes," said SAPD SAFFE Officer Nicole Quintanilla.

John Glavick and his wife Peggy requested the free service but know it's not full proof.

"Of course we realize as the officer said there's no such thing as burglar proof but there are steps you can take to make it a little tougher for them to get in," said John Glavick.

Quintanilla says communication between neighbors can be one of the best defenses against burglaries.

After Checking and inspecting the Glavick's home, They were given a few suggestion to improve and secure their home.

"Maybe changing the screws to her front door and the strike plate that was just a small idea that she could do as well as on the back door fixing the locks," said Quintanilla.

After completing your home security survey SAPD will issue you a copy. Depending on your insurance you could get a 3 to 5 percent discount for working to make your home safer.

To set up a inspection call your nearest substation.
