George the Duck killed 1 year ago Thursday

Unofficial River Walk mascot strangled, beaten

Thursday marks one year since the unofficial mascot of the San Antonio River, George the Duck, was killed.

The well-known duck hung out on the River Walk for years.

A restaurant's surveillance camera caught the men responsible for his death, showing them strangling and beating the duck before throwing him back into the river.

A $15,000 reward was set up after the incident.

No arrests have been made in the case.

His death infuriated and saddened many people in San Antonio.

Rosa Gomez wrote on Facebook on Thursday, "We should make a 'rest in peace' stone for George to honor him always at the River Walk."

Lee de Ibarra wrote, "(I) hope someday they find these cruel, evil people that did this."
