Castle Hills standoff ends peacefully

Man threatens to harm himself before surrendering

A standoff that lasted several hours in Castle Hills ended peacefully Saturday afternoon.

The Castle Hills police chief said an officer was on patrol Saturday morning and noticed the front door of a home in the 100 block of Travertine Lane was open.

He went inside and heard a man threatening to harm himself and spotted what appeared to be a holster.

The officer then exited the home and called for backup.

Residents nearby were evacuated from their homes as a precaution.

Officers secured the perimeter and negotiated with the man inside the home.

Eventually he came out of the home around 2 p.m.

Officers found a gun inside the home.

The man will undergo a mental health evaluation.
