San Antonio police investigators said the double shooting happened just after 3 p.m. in the 1500 block of Montana near Polaris.

Investigators said the 25-year-old man was shot in the torso after he opened his back door to a gunman. He was rushed to San Antonio Military Medical Center and is listed in critical condition.

His common-law wife was grazed by a bullet and should be OK, investigators said.

Police have two people in custody in connection with the shooting. The gunman, who is described as being an Hispanic male wearing all black, remains on the loose, investigators said.

Investigators said he took off in a red compact car. Police found that car about a half-mile north of the shooting location in the 500 block of Gulf.

"When the officers pulled up there," said San Antonio police Sgt. Gary Pelfrey. "The people around that car took off running. Is it a coincidence? We don't really know at this time, but we're aggressively looking into that possibility right now."

Police say several family members were home at the time of the shooting but that they didn't see the shooting occur.
