Apartment fire toll tops $1 million

15 units damaged; Arson investigators looking into cause

SAN ANTONIO – Arson investigators are looking into an expensive apartment fire on the city's Northeast Side.

It started around 6 a.m. Sunday in the 1900 block of Northeast Loop 410 at the Oasis Oakwell apartment complex.

Fire officials said 30 units were evacuated, 15 of which were damaged.

Some of the apartments sustained heavy fire damage. The others had smoke and water damage.

Fire personnel say damage from the fire is now estimated at one and a half million dollars.

Fifteen people have been displaced, but the Red Cross has offered to help them.

San Antonio Fire Chief Charles Hood said arson personnel were investigating.

One firefighter was injured, but he is expected to be OK.
