South Side store owner gunned down in robbery

Police: Robber got away in shooting victim's vehicle

SAN ANTONIO – A Sunday morning shooting left a South Side store owner in critical condition.

The shooting happened around 10:45 a.m. inside La Nortena, a small convenience store in the 2200 block of S. Flores.

Police investigators said the store owner was shot in the chest by a man trying to rob the store.

"Prayers for his wife and family and especially today being Father's Day," said the victim's brother, Gerald Flores.

Flores said his brother, Joe, owned La Nortena for 30 years.

"The people of the neighborhood all love him. They know him very well. He's always been very kind to the people in the neighborhood, especially those in need," said Flores.

After shooting Joe Flores, investigators said the suspect then stole his vehicle and took off.

San Antonio police spokeswoman Misty Flores said police investigators are interviewing potential witnesses.

"There are some people on scene that do have some information that, currently, detectives are speaking too," Floyd said.

Floyd said Joe Flores in critical condition at an area hospital.

The man who shot Flores and Flores' vehicle have not been found.
