Man shot in head found inside car in east San Antonio

SAPD officer discovered body near Yucca Street and Wheatley Avenue

SAN ANTONIO – The body of a man who police say was shot in the head was found inside a parked car on the East Side early Tuesday morning.

A San Antonio police officer patrolling the area discovered the victim's body inside the car at the corner of Yucca Street and Wheatley Avenue around 1 a.m.

The officer noticed the lights on inside the car and investigated what the person inside was doing.

He then found the driver slumped over at the wheel. Police said the man had been shot in the right temple at close range, and had gunpowder residue on his head.

The driver's side window was blown out and police believe the shooter was inside the car with the victim.

Police are investigating, but details have been limited. The shooting happened in a dark, secluded area where homes were bought out after flooding.

A few people live nearby, but no one reported hearing a gunshot, police said. Officers searched the area, but the shooter remained at large as of 7 a.m. The victim's name has not been released.
