Jail officials change visitation process

Sheriff: Video visitation system will increase safety

SAN ANTONIO – Some major changes are coming to the Bexar County Jail's visitation process.

Tuesday, county commissioners approved the selection of Inmate Calling Solutions to provide the sheriff's office with an inmate video visitation system.

The system will allow inmates to communicate with visitors over video instead of having to move prisoners to a separate facility.

Sheriff Susan Pamerleau said the system will make the jail safer.

"It also will reduce the amount (of and) the potential for contraband coming into the jail," she said.

Pamerleau said it will be at least a year until the new system is put in place.
