Burglary suspect flees police, injures officer

SAN ANTONIO – A burglary suspect fleeing a San Antonio police officer drug that officer from his car before being taken into custody Thursday morning.

Police investigators said the officer was responding to a family disturbance in the 9700 block of Valley Crest when he noticed a in his car nearby.

The officer discovered that the man, who is 24 years old, was wanted on a burglary charge. The man told the officer he did not want to go back to prison.

When the officer attempted to reach into the man's car and turn off the engine, the man took off, leaving the officer hanging onto the car.

The officer let go, fearing the man might speed up, and fell to the ground. He suffered scratches on his elbow and knee.

Other officers spotted the car and engaged in a slow-speed chase.

The burglary suspect stopped at a car wash in the 10600 block of Culebra and was taken onto custody.

Neither the suspect nor the officer have been identified.
