Alamo colleges name 2 new college presidents

SAN ANTONIO

Two new college presidents were named Tuesday by the Alamo Colleges Board of Trustees.

Dr. Robert Vela will take the position as president at San Antonio College, replacing Dr. Robert Zeigler as he retires in the summer. Dr. Ric Neal Baser will take the position as president of Northwest Vista College, replacing Jaqueline Claunch as she also retires in the summer.

Vela, who currently serves as vice president for student and academic success at Alamo Colleges - San Antonio College, has also served as vice president of student success, dean of student development at San Jacinto College - North Campus, and as coordinator/counselor at Coastal Bend College.

The chairman of the Alamo Colleges Board, Jim Rindfuss, said he was "pleased to aprove two leadership administrators who will continue to focus on improement at the Alamo Colleges."

Baser, who is currently vice president and chief academic officer at Tulsa Community College in Tulsa, Oklahoma, has previous experience serving as vice president for academic affairs at Rose State College and Seminole State College, instructor at The University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University, and director of school relations and student activities at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma.
