Chase ends in crash in SE Bexar; driver gets away

4 people in crashed pickup OK

SAN ANTONIO – A man driving a stolen pickup truck crashed into another pickup truck and then fled on foot, Bexar County Sheriff's Office officials said.

BCSO spokeswoman Rosanne Hughes said a deputy tried to stop the white pickup truck for speeding on Rigsby Avenue at 9:30 a.m., when the driver led the deputy on a chase.

Moments later, the white pickup truck, which turned out to be stolen, crashed into a red pickup truck at the intersection of Interstate 37 and Pecan Valley, Hughes said.

Elena Perez, who lives nearby where the crash happened, said the impact sounded like an explosion.

"I thought it was my water heater," Perez said. "I came out and it was an accident. The white truck was being chased by two officers."

The driver of the white pickup truck got out of the vehicle and ran from the scene.

A woman told KSAT 12 News reporter Katrina Webber that a man had been apprended in her back yard in the 200 block of Coral. Police officials have not confirmed whether the man was the driver of the stolen vehicle.

The people in the red pickup were OK.
