Arson suspected in apartment fire near Olmos Park

Fire damages vacant unit at Olmos Club Apartments on Basse Road

SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio arson unit is investigating the cause of a fire inside a vacant apartment near Olmos Park.

The fire broke out Sunday around 10:15 p.m. at the Olmos Club Apartments in the 800 block of Basse Road.

Fire officials said the apartment was being used as storage and filled with furniture and mattresses left behind by tenants who had moved out.

Fire offcials said it appeared as if someone broke a window to the apartment, then set fire to the furniture inside.

Smoke filled the apartment building and forced residents to evacuate. The family who lives above the burned unit was also displaced by the fire, officials said.

Damages were estimated at $10,000 and the cause of the fire was an ongoing investigation.
