Body found during welfare check

Person of interest brought in for questioning

SAN ANTONIO – A welfare tip from New York City police led San Antonio police to a northwest side apartment where they discovered a woman's body.

Officers found her around 12:30 a.m. Sunday in the 8900 block of Datapoint Drive.

The New York City Police Department asked San Antonio police to check on the residence.

When officers arrived at the apartment, there was no answer at the door.

One officer went around back and found an open window and climbed in. That's when he found a body covered up.

Homicide investigators were called to the scene.

A person of interest was picked up at a Church's Fried Chicken on the city's east side and was brought downtown for questioning.

The woman has not been identified, but police say she was in her 30s.
