Massive fire breaks out at Lackland AFB

SAFD assists as supply building goes up in flames

SAN ANTONIO – A fire broke out Saturday afternoon at the south end of Joint Base San Antonio Lackland.

The fire started around 4 p.m. and continued to burn into the evening as crews battled hot spots.

Officials at Lackland said it started in a single story structure used to store equipment and supplies.

They said the fire crews on the base had to call the San Antonio Fire Department for help and use of their ladder truck.

As a precaution, crews let the fire burn for a while before they could work on putting it out.

The cause of the fire is unknown as investigators have not been cleared to enter the structure.

No one was injured.
