SAPD: Standoff suspect in custody, shot by officers
Police: Man pointed what appeared to be gun at officers outside NW San Antonio home
SAN ANTONIO – A man involved in a standoff with San Antonio police Sunday evening at a Northwest Side home was taken into custody early Monday morning.
According to an SAPD press release, officers responded to an assault in progress in the 4200 block of Spiral Creek.
Officers were met outside the home by a female victim and a 47-year-old man. The man pointed what appeared to be a handgun at officers and ignored their commands to drop it, the release stated.
The officers then fired several rounds at the man and he retreated into the house, the release stated.
Officers backed away with the woman while SWAT and negotiators were called to the scene.
After several hours on the phone with negotiators, the man exited the home, but still did not comply with SWAT commands.
SWAT officers were then forced to use a "less lethal weapon" and took the man into custody, the release stated.
The suspect was treated by paramedics for a gunshot wound he suffered during the original incident with officers.
As per departmental protocol, the officers involved in the original shooting will be placed on temporary administrative duty, the release stated. No SAPD officers were injured.
