Cowboys rookie breaks foot, out 8-10 weeks

Report: DE DeMarcus Lawrence breaks foot during drill

OXNARD, Calif. – The Cowboys will have to wait a bit longer to see what rookie defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence can do on the field.

Lawrence broke his foot during 1-on-1 lineman drills on Tuesday and will miss 8 to 10 weeks, according to ESPN.com.

Lawrence went down as he was engaged with tackle Tyron Smith. His foot appeared to get caught awkwardly on the grass. He attempted to stand up, but had to be carted off the field.

The rookie from Boise State was drafted in the second round to help a Cowboys pass rush that ranked in the bottom half of the NFL last season.

The Cowboys released DeMarcus Ware this past offseason with the hopes of Lawrence making up for Ware's absence.
