Karate school owner accused of sexually assaulting child, Hays County deputies say

Hays County deputies arrest Richard Griffin, 60, on 2 counts sexual assault of a child

HAYS COUNTY, Texas – The owner of a karate school in Wimberley accused of sexually assaulting a student of his was arrested Thursday, according to the Hays County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said 60-year-old Richard Griffin was arrested at 12:30 p.m. Thursday for two counts of sexual assault of a child -- both second-degree felonies.

The arrests stem from an investigation conducted in conjunction with the Comal County Sheriff's Office. The Hays County Sheriff's Office said it also received a report of the incident via a referral from Texas Child Protective Services received on July 24.

Griffin is the owner of Kim-Soo Karate in Wimberley. Deputies said the victim in this case was a student of Griffin's for two years. The case remains under investigation.

Detectives from the Hays County Sheriff's Office and the Comal County Sheriff's Office conducted search warrants Thursday at Griffin's home and business in connection to the investigation, deputies said.
