Obama nominates SAHA CEO for HUD position

Lourdes Castro Ramirez nominated for assistant secretary

SAN ANTONIO – President Barack Obama has nominated San Antonio Housing Authority President and Chief Executive Officer Lourdes Castro Ramirez for the position of Assistant Secretary of Housing and Urban Development.

"I am deeply humbled and honored by President Obama's consideration of me for this position," Ramirez said in a prepared statement Friday. "I am devoted to the families and neighborhoods that we serve in San Antonio, to improve their quality of life and to develop vibrant communities."

SAHA Board of Commissioners Chairman Ramiro Cavazos said the board is proud of Ramirez's accomplishments at SAHA.

"Lourdes is an amazing talent, and San Antonio has been lucky to have her knowledge, skills and commitment for revitalizing our public housing and mixed-income communities," Cavazos said. "She has worked closely with the Board and her staff to transform SAHA into a nationally acclaimed, high performing housing authority in just five years."

Ramirez's nomination is subject to confirmation by the U.S. Senate. If confirmed, Ramirez would work under former San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro at HUD. Castro on Monday took over the reigns of HUD secretary.
