Amber Alert called off; suspect in standoff in Harris Co.

Austin police in standoff with Jesse Thomas,33, in connection with daughter's abduction

HARRIS COUNTY – The Austin Police Department have called off an Amber Alert for a 2-year-old girl, but deputies are in a standoff Saturday morning with the suspect in northwest Harris County.

Jesse William Thomas, 33, is in a standoff with the Harris County Sheriff's Office High Risk Operations Unit at Highway 249 & Spring Cypress.

Authorities tell Local 2 that Thomas is in the car with a gun in one hand and the girl in his other arm.

The standoff has been going on since around 7 a.m. Negotiators are on the scene trying to get a cell phone to Thomas.

DPS troopers first spotted him at FM 1960 and Kuykendahl. Troopers laid spike strips in the road and Thomas kept driving until he stopped at the standoff location.

Law enforcement officials initially issued the Amber Alert Friday night, believing Cheyenne Infinity Johnson, 2, was in grave or immediate danger, authorities said.

Thomas has two counts of aggravated assault on officers.
