SAAHJ hosts 16th-Annual Scholarship and Awards Gala

SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Association of Hispanic Journalists hosted its 16th-Annual Scholarship and Awards Gala Friday.

The event is held in recognition of excellence in the journalism community of San Antonio, from long-time professionals to those just starting out.

Sarah Gibbons received a scholarship at the event and was thrilled with her celebrity sighting.

"It is really exciting, I think I saw John Quinones walk in a minute ago. So I'm trying to get a picture with all of them, but yeah, it's definitely exciting, they've done great work, they're all really intelligent and hardworking people whose work I really admire," said Gibbons.

Quinones, the host of ABC's "What Would You Do?", received a lifetime achievement award Friday.

"The first thought I had was, 'A lifetime achievement award? I'm too young for that!' But I've been a reporter a long time and it's a real honor. Are you kidding me? I am so humbled by this," said Quinones.

SAAHJ presented a total of $30,000 worth of scholarships to young journalists and media professionals at the event.
