Rollover Shuts Down I-10 West In Northwest Bexar County

Accident at I-10 and Ralph Fair Road sends two people to the hospital

SAN ANTONIO – A rollover accident on Friday morning shut down the westbound lanes of Interstate 10 in Northwest Bexar County.

The crash occurred around 4:30 a.m. Friday on I-10 West at Ralph Fair Road, close to Leon Springs.

Rosanne Hughes, a spokeswoman for the Bexar County Sheriff's Office, said a pickup truck traveling west on I-10 rear-ended an 18-wheeler, lost control and rolled.

The impact ejected one of the two people who where in the truck. That passenger was seriously hurt and taken to University Hospital.

The other man in the truck was also taken to the hospital, but he's expected to be OK.

Because of the severity of the crash, investigators had to shut down the main lanes of I-10 West for nearly five hours.

Hughes said this is the second accident in the area this week where a vehicle was tagging an 18-wheeler too closely.

However, she said investigators are looking into other factors right now as to what caused this wreck.

"At this time, no charges have been filed, but this is an active and ongoing investigation," said Hughes. "We are trying to determine what exactly happened here, how this accident occurred."
