CPS Energy kicking off smart-meter installations

Part of an upgrade to boost efficiency, give more customer control

SAN ANTONIO – CPS Energy kicked off installations of their new smart meters Monday.

CPS is replacing about 740,000 old analog meters with their new electric ones.

This is part of a $290 million upgrade to the community electrical system that is designed to boost efficiency and give more control to customers.

CPS has been sending out letters and making automated phone calls to let customers know when they'll be installing the new meters.
