Man dies in East Side mobile home fire

Victim found dead inside mobile home on Firestar Trail

SAN ANTONIO – A man was found dead inside an East Side mobile home that caught fire early Tuesday morning.

The fire was reported around 3 a.m. at the mobile home located in the 5500 block of Firestar Trail near New Sulphur Springs Road.

A neighbor reportedly heard dogs barking and went outside, then saw flames shooting from the roof.

Fire crews responded but initially had difficulty battling the fire because of burglar bars on the home.

Firefighters managed to get inside and found the victim against the door, SAFD officials said.

The arson unit was called to the scene to investigate, but the fire was believed to have started under the mobile home.

An official cause was unknown. The victim's name was not immediately released.

Fire officials said the mobile home did not have a working smoke detector.
