Phone scam warning issued for NB business customers

Scams targeting New Braunfels business customers

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas – A warning has been issued about attempted phone scams targeting New Braunfels business customers.

New Braunfels Utilities issued a press release that stated it had several reports over the weekend about attempted phone scams involving local business customers.

The callers typically identify themselves as utility employees and ask for immediate payment on past due balances with credit cards or money cards purchased at local stores.

NBU officials want their customers to know it will not call after hours or on weekends to get payments with a debit or a credit card.

NBU employees will always clearly identify themselves and provide a legitimate, local contact number for customers to verify their credibility.

Customers should report attempted scams to local law enforcement by calling 830-221-4100.

They also can notify the Texas Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division by calling toll free at 800-252-8011.
