Man shot during apartment break-in on West Amber Street

SAN ANTONIO – An alleged home intruder has died after he was shot multiple times early Tuesday morning on the South Side.

Shots were reported just before 3 a.m. at the Amber Apartments in the 100 block of West Amber Street.

Witnesses tell San Antonio police two men broke into an apartment unit by breaking down a door, but someone inside the apartment opened fire on them.

The men attempted to run, but one was shot several times, San Antonio police said.

The men managed to get into a car, but were met by SAPD officers who responded to the scene.

San Antonio police said the man who was shot was transported to the San Antonio Military Medical Center for treatment, but was pronounced dead by the Bexar County medical examiner at 3:18 a.m.

Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting and have not said if charges would be filed.

The name of the man who died was not immediately released.
