William Richards, 55, booked into Bexar Co. Jail June 24

SAN ANTONIO – The Medical Examiner's office has confirmed that a man found unresponsive at the Bexar County Jail two months ago died from natural causes.

William Richards, 55, died of peritonitis, a condition that causes inflammation of the abdominal lining.

Investigators also found evidence of emphysema and chronic, heavy alcohol use.

Richards, who was homeless, was booked on June 24 on a charge of unlawfully carrying a weapon.

A detention officer performed CPR, but Richards later died.
