Ex-city employee charged in theft from botanical gardens

SAPD: Estevan Ramirez, 26, stole, pawned gardening tools

SAN ANTONIO – A former City of San Antonio employee identified as Estevan Ramirez, 26, is accused of stealing and pawning gardening equipment from the city's botanical gardens.

According to an arrest warrant affidavit, San Antonio police took a report about the thefts which occurred at some time between July 2 and July 9.

Police said, in all, about $1,500 worth of equipment had been stolen from the Botanical Gardens in the 500 block of Funston Place.

The affidavit stated that investigators later found records through an online law enforcement database showing that Ramirez had pawned a Stihl gas trimmer worth about $300 that belonged to the Botanical Gardens.

The affidavit stated that he was a city employee at the time. Ramirez was arrested Thursday on a theft charge.
