Police: Shell casings found near NE side shooting victim

2 people found victim behind abandoned Rittiman Road building

SAN ANTONIO – A woman who was found shot in the head behind an abandoned building on the Northeast Side had shell casings on the ground near her body, according to San Antonio police.

It suggests that she was shot in the same location where she was found, in the 4800 block of Rittiman Road.

Officers at the scene said two homeless people found the woman suffering from a gunshot wound to her head shortly before 10:30 p.m. Thursday behind what used to be a bar. A sign outside the abandoned building indicated that the business was called "Royal."

Paramedics rushed the victim, who was in critical condition, to San Antonio Military Medical Center.

Hours later, police still had not positively identified her.

A police report stated that she is believed to be between 25 and 35 years old, although officers at the scene said she was 21 years old.

Long after detectives wrapped up their investigation at the scene, the area where she was shot still was stained with her blood.

One man who did not want to reveal his identity said he frequents the area and noticed the mess on Friday morning.

"We went back there picking up cans and stuff and we saw some blood on the ground," he said. "In this neighborhood, it's not surprising because there are a lot of things going on here. It's not one of the safest neighborhoods around."

Police have not revealed a motive for the shooting nor made any arrests.
