SAN ANTONIO – Members of the San Antonio Sports Foundation and other city officials hosted the NCAA Men's Final Four site selection committee, hoping to play host to another tournament.
"San Antonio is absolutely a beautiful destination city, it's absolutely perfectly well suited to host the Men's Final Four," said Mary Ullmann Jasphet with the SA Sports Foundation.
The city has hosted three Men's Final Fours in the past, the last in 2008, but things have changed. Now the tournament in played in a football stadium with the court on the 50 yard line. Other cities have stepped up their game and San Antonio is doing the same announcing last week renovations to the Alamodome, but that is not all.
"We have a newly configured airport, the Hemisfair park is under renovation, convention center under renovations, these are all state of the art world class facilities," Japhet said.
The seven other cities in the competition to host a tournament from 2017-2020 are Atlanta, Indianapolis, Minneapolis, New Orleans, North Texas, Phoenix/Glendale and St Louis.
"If you asks anyone who goes to many Final Fours, they will always tell you that San Antonio, if it is not their very favorite, it's probably their top two," Japhet said.
