Police: Man shot inside apartment by woman's ex-boyfriend

Suspect sought after shooting at Kirby apartment complex

KIRBY, Texas – Kirby police are on the lookout for a man accused of shooting another man inside his apartment.

The shooting happened in the 2600 block of Ackerman Road at the Country Oaks Apartments around 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Police said the victim was shot in the shoulder and the kidney, and was taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center in critical condition.

Kirby police said it appeared that a woman's ex-boyfriend knocked on the door of the apartment and when the victim answered, the ex-boyfriend opened fire.

Jeffrey Washington, who lives in the same complex, said he was in the military and has medical training so, when he saw the victim, walking around and bleeding, he rushed to help.

"I ran to him," said Washington. "I put pressure on his wound until the ambulance got here."

Kirby police said the shooter fled on foot. The San Antonio Police Department was assisting with the search and had their helicopter up in the air.

Police also said it is possible that the shooter lives at the same apartment complex and they were on the scene late Tuesday, trying to track him down.
