Man arrested in Craigslist car scam

Johnifer Lodge, 33, will be charged with felony theft

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police have arrested a man in a Craigslist car-selling scam.

Johnifer Lodge, 33, will be charged with felony theft.

He was picked up Friday morning at an apartment on Perrin Beitel by officers executing a search warrant.

Police investigators said he sold a Ford Mustang to a local law enforcement officer in July through an ad posted on Craigslist.

The victim told lodge he would pay $2,500 up front and he could just make payments for the rest of it to the dealership.

Lodge even gave the victim a number to call the dealership to verify but the person on the other end of the line turned out to be an accomplice.

"These scam artists are very crafty and it appears that the scam that he used, as far as using his buddy as a member of the dealership, was the part that kind of got our victim here," said San Antonio police spokesman Officer Douglas Greene.

Investigators believe Lodge has scammed others as well.

They warn you to contact your local police department if you suspect anything fishy about a transaction on Craigslist and never meet a seller or buyer by yourself.
