SAN ANTONIO – Instead of a face-to-face debate with her opponent, Republican Sen. Dan Patrick, Sen. Leticia van de Putte appeared alone during a town hall meeting Friday at the local Univision affiliate, KWEX-Channel 41.

KSAT's own Jessie Degollado was among the journalists joining a political scientist asking about the race for lieutenant governor.

The meeting also included questions from the studio audience.

The one-hour Q&A covered a number of hot topics that both van de Putte and Patrick have been sparring over, such as border security, education and abortion.

Patrick declined Univision's invitation while agreeing to a debate with van de Putte hosted by the Texas Tribune at the end of September.

Patrick's campaign has not responded to KSAT's request for a comment.

Friday night's town hall was at 6 p.m. and KWEX will re-broadcast it at 10 p.m.
