Residents meet to discuss preserving SA's historic neighborhoods

Historic neighborhoods, landmarks focus of meeting

SAN ANTONIO – Preserving historic neighborhoods and landmarks in San Antonio was the focus of a meeting held Wednesday night.

The Office of Historic Preservation hosted an information session at Lamar Elementary School to answer questions about historic preservation and what it means to live in a historic district.

KSAT has reported on the debate in Mahncke Park over designating the neighborhood a historic district.

Some residents are against it while others say it should be done to protect the area from unwanted development.

"This neighborhood has been here since the 20s. Seven to 20 houses built by my great grandfather and I just want to get support, and get the word out," said Jess Mayes, Mahncke Park resident.

The Office of Historic Preservation will hold two additional meetings for the public next month on Oct. 4 and Oct. 15.
