More than 1,000 turn out for Head for the Cure 5K Walk/Run

KSAT 12 sponsored run to raise awareness, money for brain cancer research

SAN ANTONIO – More than 1,000 people participated in the Head for the Cure 5K Walk/Run at the KSAT 12 studios Saturday morning.

The event started just after 8 a.m. and featured a live band, an awards ceremony and medal presentation.

Many KSAT eployees ran in memory of the station's late news director, Jim Boyle, who passed away earlier this year.

"Our run is a testament to how much we love Jim Boyle. I know he's looking down on us and is proud because he loved to run, but also loved KSAT 12," said Mario Orellana, KSAT 12 Executive Producer.

"Jim was always so competitive and such a good leader and mentor. He loved to run and always did these 5Ks. This seemed like an appropriate way to honor his memory and competitive spirit," said Bernice Kearney, KSAT 12 News Director.

The event raised an estimated $125,000 to fund brain cancer research and raise awareness.

KSAT would like to thank all the people who participated and volunteered to make the event a huge success.
