Woman identified in deadly fall from hotel

Lisa R. French, 57, of Marion, found in courtyard at Omni La Mansion del Rio

SAN ANTONIO – A woman who died in an apparent fall at the Omni La Mansion del Rio hotel last Friday has been identified as Lisa R. French, 57, of Marion.

The Bexar County Medical Examiner said the cause of death was blunt force injury. The manner of death was unknown.

There does not appear to be any foul play involved in the woman's death, according to a San Antonio Police Department spokesman.

Officer Douglas Greene said investigators have not located any witnesses to the death, which occurred at some point before 3 a.m. last Thursday.

Officers were called to the hotel in the 100 block of College Street after an employee found French in a courtyard area.

"Based on the trauma that we observed on her body, it looks like she fell from a significant height," Greene said.

It's still unclear how she fell or from what floor of the hotel, he said.

The courtyard is surrounded by the hotel which has open landings with railings on each floor.

Greene said investigators spoke with French's traveling companion, but he is not considered a suspect.

A police report states that they found him in his hotel room, asleep and unaware of what had happened.

"The person was very cooperative and seemed shocked that the person that they were with, the victim--that this has occurred," Greene said. "(He) allowed us to go into the hotel and go into his room to see if there was any other evidence of any foul play."
