SAPD: Wrong-way driver causes 3-car pile up

2 women injured, both refuse treatment

SAN ANTONIO – Two women were injured in a wrong-way crash on the city's North Side early Sunday morning.

Police said a man driving a pickup truck was traveling eastbound at the intersection of West Ashby Place and Breeden Street when he saw an SUV traveling toward him.

The pickup truck immediately pulled off to the left lane, but a black vehicle behind the truck was following too closely and collided with the SUV, causing a third vehicle to crash into the black car.

Authorities said the man in the black vehicle fled on foot and had beer cans in his car.

The driver of the third vehicle and her passenger were injured, police said, but they refused to go to the hospital.

Police said they issued a sobriety test to the wrong-way driver and are still investigating if alcohol was involved.
